Dubai, UAE – February 18, 2025: As well as a smattering of rainclouds, the air was rife with excitement on Tuesday morning as a dozen Under-10s engaged in a series of memorable rallies with a trio of Grand Slam champions at the Emirates Junior Tennis Clinic courtesy of the UAE Tennis Federation.
Held on the sidelines of the ongoing Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships and designed to give youngsters a taster of the sport, the clinic called upon No1 doubles seed Taylor Townsend, fellow American Bethanie Mattek-Sands, and Brazil’s Olympic bronze medallist Luisa Stefani. Between them, the three women share 12 Grand Slam doubles titles and in what was an exciting morning of tennis drills, helpful tips, and happy high-fives, the UAE-based beginners revelled in the rare opportunity.
Doubles World No3 Townsend said: “This kind of initiative is always fun. It’s super nice to be able to do this, especially in other countries. It gives us perspective to see how many kids and people enjoy the sport and to be able to engage in an activity that makes an impact on budding players is always great.”
Committed to engaging youth and immersing them in the world of sports, the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships offers a series of events and activities throughout the two weeks of the event. In addition to Junior Clinics, the Championships also hosts two J.P. Morgan Kids’ Days.
Speaking from the sidelines, Maitham Hussein, Technical Secretary at UAE Tennis Federation added: “Our Kids Clinic is considered one of the traditions of the Dubai Duty Free Championships and its success year on year is a testament to the rising interest of tennis in the country. We truly enjoy coaching young players, and it is an amazing experience for them to meet and learn from these professional players.”
