February 20 2019 – DUBAI, UAE: Over 50 children were treated to an exciting day at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships this morning as they participated in the Lacoste Kid’s Day. Children from Dubai Autism Center, Sports Heroes Academy (Sunmarke School Programme) and Manzil Centre enjoyed tennis lessons from the Clark Francis Tennis Academy and met with UAE number 1 Omar Bahrouzyan.

The Lacoste Special Needs Clinic is specifically designed to offer a fun tennis experience for children with special needs, and they were very happy to meet with Omar.

Hollie Murphy, founder of Sports Heroes Academy, said “The Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships has created this initiative for all children of determination here in the UAE, they get the opportunity to participate in tennis and to be coached by some elite coaches and also get to meet with some of the professional tennis players. We love coming to this day as it gives our children the opportunity to be involved and to learn and grow in sport.”

Bahrouzyan, current UAE Number.1 Tennis Player, said: “I’m honoured to be a part of this day, the kids are a lot of fun. It’s great for them to play and have people cheering them when they hit good shots. I think it is good for their self-confidence to feel like they definitely belong.”

Student of Sports Heroes Academy, Dinal Ekanayake really enjoyed the day being a part of the day. “I love tennis and sports heroes because I enjoy playing and I want to be a super pro.”

The sensational week of women’s tennis will be followed from 25th February by an equally thrilling men’s event headed by seven-time champion Roger Federer, Australian Open semi-finalist Stefanos Tsitsipas, defending champion and recent Doha winner Roberto Bautista Agut, former US Open winner Marin Cilic, Japanese No. 1 Kei Nishikori and two-time finalist Tomas Berdych.

The Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships is owned and organised by Dubai Duty Free, and held under the patronage of H. H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
