Tournament no. 4 seeds Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury lifted their first title as a team at the 2019 Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships on Saturday. The American-British pairing beat Ben McLachlan and Jan-Lennard Struff 7-6, 6-3 in 82 minutes.
“Yeah, really, really happy,” said Salisbury after the match. “We’ve had a great week. Felt like we were playing well. We had our first final together in Brisbane, felt like we didn’t quite perform as well as we could.
“I think today, even if we lost that match, we don’t think we could have done any more. We played really well. Absolutely delighted with it.”
Ram and Salisbury joined forces only at the beginning of the season and reached the final in their maiden tournament, in Brisbane. This week they ousted two-time defending champions Rojer/Tecau in the semi-finals.
“I think we complement each other really well,” said Ram. “(Joe’s) just a super athlete on the court, covers a lot of space. I think we both served quite well. I don’t think we actually faced a breakpoint all week, which is pretty good.”
The brilliant year of @RajeevRam & Joe Salisbury continues!
