Dubai, UAE – February 26, 2025: Greek tennis star Stefanos Tsitsipas is no stranger to experiencing different cultures as he travels the world with the ATP Tour. But ahead of this year’s Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, the World No11 took his appreciation for tradition a step further by getting fitted for a custom-made kandura, the traditional Emirati attire.
Tsitsipas, known for his adventurous spirit on and off the court, had the opportunity to experience Emirati culture through one of the UAE’s top tailors, Bait Al Kandora, who took his measurements for a bespoke kandura. The fitting session was a mix of cultural exchange and light-hearted moments as the 26-year-old explored different fabric choices, colours, and intricate design details that distinguish Emirati attire from regional variations.
“My first experience wearing a kandura was during a winter trip to Oman,” Tsitsipas said. “It was incredibly comfortable, and I felt connected to the culture, so when I had the opportunity to get one custom-made here in Dubai, I was really excited. People don’t realise how comfortable it is – I’d pick it over any normal clothes any day.”
During his fitting, the Greek star learned about the subtle differences in traditional dress across the Gulf.
“I have a big appreciation for different cultures, and I’ve talked about it so many times,” Tsitsipas said. “Travelling allows me to explore different traditions.”
After selecting a sleek white kandura—a nod to both tradition and his personal style—Tsitsipas made his debut in the attire at the ATP Players’ Party in Dubai on Tuesday night. Stepping onto the scene in the flowing garment, he embraced the elegance of Emirati culture while blending it seamlessly with his charismatic presence.
“Fashion is a great way to connect with different cultures,” he added. “I’ve always loved exploring traditions through what people wear, and this experience has been truly special.”
Tsitsipas, who is a fan favourite in Dubai, was warmly received at the event, with fans and fellow players appreciating his enthusiasm for local customs.
