What They Said: Kerber, Pliskova, Cibulkova, Radwanska

The top four seeds of the 2017 Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships - Angelique Kerber, Karolina Pliskova, Dominika Cibulkova, and Agnieszka Radwanska, spoke to media ahead of contesting this Premier 5 event, held 19-25 February. Here's a bit of what they had to say about success, focus, and how they get to (and stay at) the top of the women's game.

Angelique Kerber on her strategy for the season after a blockbuster 2016:

"I'm looking forward to 2017. It's a new year, with new challenges. It's important for me to have fun on court — the priority is playing tennis, of course — but also trying to enjoy everything happening [around me]."

Karolina Pliskova on how she keeps improving her ranking over 11 years on the WTA Tour:

"It took me years to get where I am now [rankings-wise]. The results are coming with age, so I think the I've grown up mentally and physically as well."

Dominika Cibulkova on one of her big goals this year:

"[The Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships] is a pretty big tournament. Right now, where my position is in the rankings, it's pretty open. I can really reach the highest ranking in my life. It's really open until World No. 3, so this is a big motivation for me."

Agnieszka Radwanska (2012 champion) on what it's like to stay at the top of the game for so long:

"I'm very happy that I can play consistent and solid tennis, being in the Top 10 for so many years. It's hard work, and nothing is getting any easier. It's the opposite; it’s harder and harder. You can see a lot of up-and-coming players pushing you. The Top 10 is always so tight. So many players deserve to be there, but there are only ten spots. That's why it’s so hard. I hope I can be on top for another few years."
